Random Thursday Things

It’s almost Friday… so how about playing a game?

Liz Ashlee “tagged” me in this game that’s been circulating around the blogosphere lately, so I thought it might be a fun change–> at least, more fun than posting about the salads we had last night for dinner, don’t you think? ;)

11 Random Things About Myself

1. I’m newly obsessed with Downton Abbey. Austin and I watched the entire first season on Netflix Streaming a couple weeks ago, and now we’ve both got the soundtrack playing on repeat throughout the day. Sunday nights can’t come fast enough each week.

2. I love Mrs. Meyer’s Basil & Parsley scented hand soaps.

Luckily, Austin likes it, too. We disagree on hand soap scents more than you might expect.

3. Tangled is my new favorite Disney movie. I have it saved on our DVR, so I can play it anytime I’m bored.

4. I like to watch the Dr. Oz Show when I’m running on my treadmill, even though I disagree with him a lot.

5. I had never even visited Los Angeles before driving across the country to move here. Eeek.

6. I was so sad when my local Whole Foods stopped carrying my favorite raw goat feta… until I found it again yesterday!

I might have gone overboard when stocking-up.

7. Even though I’ve had my job for almost 6 years, I still get excited when I see one of my cards in the store.

8. I’ve finally given up my favorite Bobbi Brown foundation, in favor of a more natural skin care line.

So far, I don’t regret the decision. I actually LOVE my new foundation!

9. But I still use Bobbi Brown eyeliner. It’s the best one I’ve ever tried.

10. I was sad when All My Children and One Life to Live were canceled. Daytime TV is officially dead to me.

11. I used to hate fresh ginger, but now I’m obsessed with it.

Particularly in pudding-form. (I made this pudding with traditional yams last night–> still just as tasty as the Purple version!)

11 Questions I Had To Answer:

1. Who are your fitness role models? Hmm… not sure I would consider myself to have true “fitness” role models, but I have always looked to Jennifer Aniston and Kelly Ripa for workout ideas. Thanks to Kelly Ripa, I discovered Physique 57!

2. Do you prefer cooking at home or eating at a restaurant? Cooking at home, of course! I actually think the food I make at home tastes better than most restaurant meals, anyway.

3. Favorite quote or words you live by? “Do something that scares you everyday.” There’s no better feeling than conquering a fear! My most recent accomplishment was driving a rental car around New Jersey and New York City– which was terrifying! But, I was so proud of myself when it was all over.

4. Favorite running shoes? Brooks! I usually buy whichever Brooks shoes are on clearance at my local running store.

5. Which do you prefer, strength training or cardio? Favorite workout routine? I prefer cardio, because I can zone-out while doing it in front of the TV (using my Gymboss to keep me accountable), but I also love my Physique 57 DVDs for strength.

6. Music that makes you move? Florence + the Machine & Jay-Z

7. Favorite indulgent food that you would eat everyday if nutritious facts didn’t matter? Pizza!!! And cookies. In the same sitting.

8. What are you are grateful for? Everything! I feel so lucky to have my family, my friends, my job, my health… seriously, everything.

9. Biggest pet peeve? How do you deal with it? Trash left in the sink– it drives me CRAZY. Austin will purposefully leave a muffin wrapper or paper towel in the sink, because he thinks it’s funny to see me get mad. Then I give him an evil-glare, and he immediately removes it.

10. How do you get rid of the grumps or a negative story in your head? Talking to a good friend, taking a nap, or a hot shower. Those things make me instantly feel better.

11. Greatest piece of advice for living a healthy lifestyle? Don’t go to extremes–> having learned from personal experience, a consistent lifestyle (even if it’s not perfect!) is much healthier than an all-or-nothing lifestyle.

  • Matt and I watched the first episode of Downton Abbey online recently because my editor alerted us that the dude in the show has Matt’s name – Matt Crawley! I really enjoyed that first episode, but then they took the free Season 1 eps off the site :( We need to find a way to catch up. Let me know if they ever ever show a season 1 marathon on tv or anything, or offer the episodes for free online again!

    1. What’s the meal you eat most often?
    Salad! Every day, no matter what! I crave it :)

    2. What’s your favorite movie of all time?
    I can’t say I have a favorite of all time… but I’m embarrassed to say that I really loved No Strings Attached. I laughed and felt good all 5 times I watched it :)

    3. What made you want to start a blog?
    My 11 year old nephew turned to me last Christmas and said: “You are the skinniest healthiest person I know so you should start a blog.” Point blank. I have mixed feelings about the skinny part, but he was the first one to really suggest it to me, and so I took his advice!

    4. Do you have any pets?
    *Sigh* No… I have an overwhelming desire to bring a furry friend into our home though.

    5. What’s your favorite workout?
    Dancing! I do not consider it a workout which is a good sign. As soon as I hear a good beat, I start moving, no matter what my surroundings are. Dancing on the rebouder is included in this category too. I also love pilates because of the focus on working with the breath and perfect alignment.

    6. Name one thing on your “bucket list.”
    Visit at least one place on every continent

    7. Name one “weird” thing that you do.
    I buy new herbal tea all the time, no matter how many different kinds I already have. Tea is a big ritual part of my day!

    8. Your favorite city/place to visit?
    Used to be Paris but it’s gotten so poluted it’s hard to breathe sometimes.. I love where I live now: San Francisco, because it’s a small place with all the fun big city things and an appreciation for nature.

    9. Anywhere you still dream of visiting?
    Africa.

    10. Best purchase you’ve ever made?
    My Vitamix – I got it 3 years ago for my birthday, and it has served me well in all my sweet and savory endeavors!

    11. What’s the one thing you would change in the world, if you could?
    The approach to health and healing. I would replace half the hospitals with detox clinics, and make it illegal for food corporations to make health claims and advertisements.

    • The Vita-Mix is definitely the best purchase I’ve made, too. I don’t remember how I used to eat without it!

      I’m dying to visit San Fransisco… sounds like a fun place to live! :)

  • Ahhh fun! I will do it this weekend. I can only get that raw feta in ONE store in all of Seattle and I’m actually eating it today! Such good stuff.

    • I can only find it in ONE store, too! I’ve heard other stores will special-order it if you’re willing to buy the entire case– which I was starting to consider! LOL ;)

    I just started using the Josie Maran foundation & I’m in love with it. I have been very impressed with it. By far the best natural foundation I’ve found so far! :)

    Have you tried Alima Pure make up? They are so light and have probably best list of ingredients. I love them a lot I have foundation and also eye colours. Make up is ok for whole day!
