I’m afraid my meals haven’t been too interesting this week.
I’ve been traveling for work, which means my meals have to be quick and easy to grab–> with very little room for creativity. It also means I’ve eaten more meals out than I care to admit. I had almost forgotten what it’s like to feel swollen after a meal. Why do chefs insist on adding so much sodium to their food?!
Needless to say, I’m looking forward to getting back to LA this afternoon, and back to my own kitchen.
In the meantime, here’s a peek at one of my work days this week.
–
Morning:
Un-pictured: water, a raw probiotic, and 2 cups of black coffee.
Fresh pineapple–> eaten straight out of the container I keep sitting in my work fridge. Pineapple usually makes my tongue burn after a while (From the enzymes? The sugar? I don’t know!), so that’s my stopping point.
Followed later by a cup of plain goat yogurt.
–
Lunch:
Un-pictured: Magnesium Citrate supplement (<–very helpful while traveling!)
Romaine salad dressed with a few spoonfuls of raw tahini, the juice of a whole lemon, garlic, Himalayan sea salt, and topped with cherry tomatoes.
–
Snack:
Half a bag of organic snap peas. (Love that Trader Joe’s is carrying these now!)
–
Dinner:
Un-pictured: Another Magnesium Citrate supplement.
The easiest “travel dinner” ever.
A box of herb salad mix, a 4 oz. chunk of organic goat cheese, a box of cherry tomatoes and the juice of a lemon. (I also added a squirt of German mustard!) Combine everything in the salad box, chop it together to mix, and eat straight from the box!
Very little time to prepare, and virtually no dirty dishes when you’re finished!
I tried a couple squares of this almond & sea salt chocolate bar for dessert. It was a little too sweet for my taste, but I love anything that combines sweet + salt!

Reader Feedback: What have you been enjoying this week?

Oh my goodness, It’s been raw food decadence all week for me being in NYC. My body is gonna sing hallelujah once I get back home and back off the heavy nut dishes. It’s been outrageously delish though. I’ve never heard you mention the raw probiotic, how do you like it? And what is it with the pineapple, I feel like it does that to everyone!
I went through a week or two of heavy raw nut dishes, too– but I have no good excuse for it, like being in NYC.
The raw probiotic is pretty new to me; I’ve only been using it for my week of travel so far. I “felt” it right away, so it seems to be pretty strong! I’ll keep you updated.
Pineapple makes my tongue burn, too! I’m glad I’m not the only one. In fact, I don’t eat it that much anymore because that feeling really annoys me.
Well, I haven’t enjoyed this stuff yet, but I just got back from the farmer’s market/grocery store and got baby bok choy, spinach, salad greens, fresh eggs, local strawberries, and some chevre! Looking forward to all of it. Forgot the chocolate, though! May need to go get a bar of something.
Okay, the pineapple thing seems pretty common! Good to know.
Your farmer’s market goods sound fantastic! I’m sitting in the airport drooling…
I’m also interested in how you like the raw probiotics.
These are pretty new to me– I just bought them for my week of traveling! So far, they seem pretty strong, so I’ll let you know what I think after a few more weeks.
Just curious what the benefit of magnesium citrate is while travelling – thanks!
It helps keep you “regular.” Traveling is often very constipating.
You still seem to be eating very well even though your travelling! I guess eating out lots doesn’t feel too great though, agree on the sodium, it drives me crazy! I actually don’t like pineapple, so have never felt the burning tongue thing hah
I love your travel dinner! I will definitely have to try that. And I know what you mean about the pineapple but it’s so good, it’s worth it! Why do you use the magnesium citrate when traveling?
The magnesium citrate helps keep you “regular.” (Important after a dehydrating flight!)
Amazing eats, as usual!! So I was wondering, why the magnesium citrates supplement? I am going to be traveling lots this summer and I HATE the way I feel when I am traveling. Do these help with that? If so, sign me up!!!
The magnesium citrate keeps you “regular.” Flying is very dehydrating, and often leads to constipation for days afterward for many people.
I had been wondering about the burning-tongue phenomenon with pineapple as well…and through searching around a bit…discovered it may be caused by under-ripe pineapple! I have definitely noticed that the riper my fruit, the less scratchy, burny tongue
The burning is due to the bromelain in the pineapple. It can actually be used as a meat tenderizer.
I’m curious regarding the raw probiotics. Right now I use the Dr. Ohiras, but was planning on trying the raw ones. Let us know how they work out, thanks!
I think everything looks amazing!! Love the salad with tahini- I eat that all the time too, I even had it for dinner myself today
And I made your sweet potato nudles with pepper sauce a few days ago! I absolutely loved it! And I posted about it on my blog, and a few of my readers have already made it, and they loved it too
glad to see you like magnesium citrates, we will have to try it! as traveling always messes up our system

why does pineapple make your tongue burn after a while? I really want to know this it has been concerning me forever hahaha
I’ve heard it’s from the acidity, which can be reduced by choosing a ripe pineapple. Also, removing the core is helpful as it removes the enzymes thought to burn the tongue. I think it’s a safe bet to just keep your pineapple portions relatively small, so you don’t overwhelm your tongue.
