What I Ate Wednesday

Morning

Un-pictured: Water, daily probiotics, and cold-brewed coffee with a splash of organic cream.

Fresh green juice, made with a romaine heart, whole cucumber, 5 large kale leaves, 5 large carrots and a lemon.

Followed later by some organic strawberries.

Lunch

This was an experiment gone right. An entire bag of kelp noodles, smothered in an avocado pesto sauce and tossed with cherry tomatoes. (recipe to come!)

Dinner

Un-pictured: A couple ounces of raw goat cheddar, snacked on before dinner.

Mixed greens, dressed with shredded raw goat cheddar, cherry tomatoes, Dijon mustard and fresh lemon juice.

Followed by half a head of steamed cauliflower, topped with more raw goat cheddar.

(And yes, I used the same bowl twice–> one less dish to clean later!)

Dessert

A few rows of Green & Black’s organic dark chocolate. This particular bar is extra-smooth and creamy!

  • Haha I do the same-bowl trick too! I’ve been eating tons of watermelon out of the same bowl this week, but this morning when I got home from my spin class, my roomie had put it in the dishwasher and switched it on. So I was forced to live a little and bust out a new one. ;) The kelp noodle dish sounds great!

  • Yum! That bowl is so cute! Do you buy the raw goat cheddar at Whole Foods, I was buying goat cheese there for awhile but it molded super quickly and sometimes it already had mold in it..taking a break but I do miss it! Lots of wraps and salads here, plus my superfood smoothie that’s up on the blog today…yummy! So funny, I have been experimenting w/ kelp noodles the past couple weeks and putting them in my wrap with a delicious sunflower seed sauce…I will have to post it soon! Can’t wait to check out your recipe..the photo looks amazing!

    • What a bummer about the moldy cheese! I do buy mine at Whole Foods, but I haven’t been able to find my usually Alta Dena brand lately, so I’ve been enjoying the Mt. Sterling variety this week. If they run out of that, I’ll have to take a break from goat cheese, too!

Kelp noodles sound fantastic in a wrap, too!

  • I’ve been meaning to make avocado pesto for about a week now!

  • I always love your eats! So fresh and clean! Can’t wait for the kelp noodle recipe! I’ve always wanted to try them just haven’t found a good recipe for them yet!

Green and Black is one of my favourite types of chocolate! Really love their 85% dark bar.

I’ve been loving BIG salads this week! Too hot (and feeling a little lazy… Haha) to turn on the oven. Been experimenting with new toppings (tempeh) and dressing!

    • I love the 85% bar, too! In fact, everyone must love it because Whole Foods can’t seem to keep it in stock. :(

Loving big salads lately, too! With new toppings and dressings, they never seem to get boring!

New to Raw, but love your website, along with reading Raw Food Detox Diet. Have been drinking Green Juice each morning, and mid day some fresh juiced watermelon mixed with apple & lemon. Have been trying to stick to “Raw ’til Dinner” this week, and have felt great trying to properly combine food. I made a 2nd batch of your almond butter fudge last night, since the family devoured the first batch! How do you feel about Kombucha, and where should that fit in my day?

    • So glad you’re all enjoying the almond butter fudge! :)

In regards to Kombucha, I think it should be consumed on an empty stomach– just like a probiotic would be. Ideally, Natalia Rose recommends consuming fermented items within a few days of being made (meaning that bottled Kombucha available at the store may be too acidic), but I don’t always follow that rule, since my homemade raw sauerkraut sits for over a month in my fridge! Personally, I don’t care for the taste of Kombucha, so I don’t drink it… it also used to make me feel a little “tipsy” when I drank it in the mornings! Ha ha. But, if you enjoy the flavor and feel a difference by drinking it, then I say go for it.

      Hope that helps!

Thank you for the insight! I sometimes grab a store bought bottle, to consume after lunch, which seems to leave me feeling full and bloated. I had some this morning, after my green juice, and breakfast of fresh pineapple, and don’t have the same bloated feeling. I will start tomorrow with my probiotics first thing in the morning, rather than the usual mid-day. So glad i found your website!

  • Cauliflower looks delicious!!!

    Question,

What’s your feeling on the oxalate issue in regards to consuming a lot of green smoothies.
    Thank you.

I like Natalia books but I disagree about that fermented food should be eaten within week. Many cultures have kept their fermented veggies and milk kefir for many month in room temperature with no problem, actually in miĺk kefir it is much more nutritious when it become older(more folic acid and othe vitamins)So you are right with it:-) How do you like your probiotic I mean do you prefer that raw one from Garden of life or this one:-)

  • kelp noodles? avacado pesto sauce? I cannot wait for this recipe!
(i’ve never even heard of kelp noodles. are they at your typical health food store, or are they kinda rare?)
I love that you end your nights with dark chocolate:)

Salads, rice, yams, blueberries, oats, nectarines, whole wheat bread…and my new obsession has been goat yogurt with blueberry bran muffins I found at Trader Joes that have no sugar and are awesome. Laying off the food combining and no grains this week :)

  • I just discovered Kelp Noodles couple of weeks ago and I’m totally in love! I love mixing them with a spicy peanut sauce and tons of veggies! Can’t wait for the avocado pesto recipe!!!

  • Kelp noodles are surprisingly delicious! I always have bags stocked up of them. I’ve never had them with avocado, but now I’ll try it out! I definitely eat from the same bowls, hey I wash them after so whatever. And that cauliflower and goat cheese sounds amazing. Cauliflower and goat cheese goes perfect together!!

  • love that chocolate! this week i’m enjoying lots of fresh broccoli from the garden- store bought doesn’t come close. its so green and vibrant!

  • Intrigued by these….kelp noodles? This is honestly the first I’ve heard of them. What are they like? I’ve also been curious about Shirataki noodles. Any experience experimenting with those?

    • They are crunchier than traditional noodles, but have almost no flavor once you rinse them– so they will taste like whatever sauce you decide to top them with! I don’t think I’ve ever tried Shirataki noodles, but we’ve had good luck with “Miracle Noodles” which I think are similar.

  • [...] seeing these in random recipes and finally found them at Whole Foods! I curious to cook with them! Detoxinista just posted a recipe with them so I think I will have to try it [...]

I love your recipes and your website overall. The hubs and I have been enjoying many of your delicious ideas over the last few days…and we feel really good throughout a hard work day. One question though. Is there a difference between goat cheeses? Thanks!

    • I’m not sure if I understand your question, but there are a variety of goat cheeses. Soft goat cheese, or chevre, is usually pasteurized but widely available and is served at many restaurants. The raw goat cheddar, that I featured in this post, is made with raw goat milk and is a hard cheese that can be sliced, shredded or melted. It’s my personal favorite, and I find it very easy to digest. The two brands I enjoy the most often are Alta Dena or Mt. Sterling, since they are usually available at my local Whole Foods.

      Hope that helps!
