1. I’ve never been a fan of packaged coconut water. Every brand I had tried up to this point didn’t taste at all like the water from a fresh coconut.

Until I tried the stuff from Harmless Harvest. They were giving out free samples of their coconut water at Costco, and I’m so glad I gave it a try– it tastes EXACTLY like you just opened up a fresh coconut and stuck a straw in. So delicious! On mornings when I feel too tired to whip up a green juice or smoothie, this coconut water is the perfect alternative to get my day started.

2. For those of you looking for the calorie counts in my recipes, it looks like some of the work has already been done for you.

My fitness pal detoxinista

I don’t encourage calorie counting, as I think it’s more important to shift our focus to the quality of the food we’re eating, but for those of you who still need the numbers, one of my readers pointed out that several of my recipes have already been entered into the MyFitnessPal database. (I found these by searching “detoxinista.”)

3. Primal Body, Primal Mind.

You may or may not be surprised by how many ideas cross-over between the Detox and Paleo worlds, but this book is loaded with interesting nutritional nuggets and research to back it all up. I read this book a couple years ago, and still use it often for reference. I was personally surprised to read Nora Gedgaudas discuss (albeit, briefly) the importance of eating food in proper combination– particularly not combining starches and protein in the same meal.

4. It will never cease to amaze me that bananas can turn into this.

They really do make the very best soft serve! I ended up adding almond butter to this batch, but this peanut butter recipe is my husband’s very favorite.

5. This chair.

My sister-in-law recommended this Inglesina chair to us, as it safely and conveniently hooks on to your table or counter without taking up much space. (Perfect for those of us with tiny apartments!)

Attaching this chair to my kitchen counter is the best thing I’ve ever done. Our little guy loves watching me cook, and I can actually get work done while entertaining him at the same time!

Fresh Basil РI baked cod with lemon, oregano and olive oil and served with saut̩ed zucchini, tomatoes and garlic and a side of barley Рall topped with fresh basil and parmesan. Delish!

I’ve been making your banana soft serve a lot lately. It’s my new favorite recipe! I agree, it’s amazing what you can do with a frozen banana. I took this recipe and turned it into a healthy version of a frappuccino. I just added more almond milk and some instant coffee. I also added a little frozen avocado. It was so look good!

Ha! That’s the exact same thing I said about coconut water…..and why Harmless Harvest is the only coconut water I can stand to drink. I’m so stoked that they sell it at Costco!

  • Kayla

  • OH my goodness, what a great idea to use the chair! Your little guy is so adorable :)

  • Your little angel is such a cutie — what a practical chair!!

  • Robyn

This is the only coconut water worth drinking! It is so fresh. :)

  • I LOVE Harmless Harvest Coconut water. I would drink it all the time if I could afford to! Have you tried their raw tea? It’s pretty fantastic as well.

  • I love harmless harvest too and your blog! I just found you, and I’m so happy! :)

This week I’m loving detoxing for Spring. Also, a new juice recipe for the first day of Spring – pineapple, carrot, and ginger!! Very tropical.

How much was the case at Costco? We can only get HH at WFM (because we don’t have a Costco membership). Might be worth the membership! What else do you get at Costco that benefits the detox lifestyle??

    • Megan

If I remember correctly, the case was around $16 for 4 bottles. This is the first year I’ve tried the membership, since I’m going through an insane amount of ingredients to develop cookbook recipes, but I’m really impressed with the amount of organic fresh produce that Costco carries. Each store varies, but I’ve found great deals on Romaine, strawberries, mixed greens, spinach, and carrots (all organic). They also carry huge tubs of organic extra-virgin coconut oil, organic eggs, and Kerrygold grass-fed butter. Just buying my contact solution there saves me enough money each year to make the membership cost worth it, so the rest is icing on the cake. :)

  • Chrissy

Thank you for the response, Megan. That’s about a $1/bottle savings off retail. I’m in Las Vegas and we’ve heard that the organic selection here can be hit or miss. We would just love to be able to get our organic juicing bases like celery, cucumber, carrots, lemon, and romaine there for a little cheaper. Looks like we’ll have to take a walk-through at one in the wealthy part of town to see what they have ;) Looking forward to checking out your cookbook.

  • 2 things: 1)I love HH coconut water-tastes way better and has nothing else in it, plus it’s raw. 2) LOVE LOVE LOVE Primal Body, Primal Mind…it’s what turned me paleo over 2 years ago and we haven’t looked back!

I’ve seen that chair before and am thinking of trying it with baby girl. Your little man is so cute and looks like he loves watching mama cook ;) Thanks for sharing!
