A Juicy New Year

Happy New Year!!!

Despite the fact that Austin and I spent our first day of the new year stuck in airports most of the day, I’ve got a good feeling about 2012. πŸ˜€ We are happy to be back in LA, and are both looking forward to getting back to some healthy habits after nearly a week of holiday gluttony.

We both are craving green juice!! Luckily, Pressed Juicery is taking care of that for us this week. I had the foresight to order a juice package while we were home in Kansas, so our first juice delivery was waiting at our doorstep this morning! (This is definitely a perk of living in LA.)

These juices are helping me kick-off the first day of my 30-Day Rose Cleanse which is being virtually guided by my mentor, Natalia Rose. After enjoying the 3-day guided Juice Fast with Natalia last October, I couldn’t resist taking advantage of her guidance again!

For those of you unfamiliar with The Rose Cleanse, it’s a more gentle approach to cleansing, when compared to a juice-only fast. I will enjoy fresh, raw vegetable juices throughout the day and then will break my “mini-fast” each evening with a properly-combined dinner. With the support of Natalia and the online community, I have a feeling this will be an exciting experience!

While Austin has no interest in joining me on The Rose Cleanse, he has signed up for a little 30-day challenge of his own. A few of our friends have committed to trying the Paleo diet for 30-days, and have roped Austin into the challenge. This works great for me, because Austin will be able to eat many of the same dinners that I already enjoy!

He will be omitting grains, processed foods, and most dairy over the next 30 days…

… so it’s a good thing I know how to make tasty, grain-free cookies, huh? πŸ˜‰

I’m excited to see what the next 30 days brings for us, and find these type of challenges much more fun than making New Year’s resolutions. I have a few exciting trips coming up this month, so it’ll be interesting to see how our challenges go!

Hi Megan! I just found your blog and I am so happy I did. I have just adopted a paleo lifestyle and you have so many awesome ideas and recipes here. I also see that you are a fellow Kansan!

I am going to be trying your raw cheesecake this week and testing it on my toughest critic, the husband. I’ll let you know how it turns out πŸ™‚

    Megan

So glad you found me, Kristin! Always nice to hear from a fellow Kansan. πŸ™‚ Hope you and your husband enjoy the raw cheesecake!

On the Rose cleanse too. 6lbs down on day 5… shows how much I veered off the path during the holidays:0
Had a great big avo salad last night with your avo shake except but I didnt have another avo for the shake so I substituted with a left over cold yam. Holy Moly it was insanely good! So what else is on your dinner menu?

    Megan

We must be on the same wavelength– I was thinking of using some steamed yam in a shake, too! I actually ended up using it to make the BEST sauce last night, instead, and Austin has deemed it one of the best pasta sauces he’s ever tasted! I’ll be sharing our meal later today. πŸ˜€

YAH! this kinda sounds like what my hubby & I are doing. We wanted to do a cleanse, but nothing to drastic bc it’s still cold out & salad or just juicing wouldn’t be enough this time of year. We thought we’d juice it up all day & have a healthy cleansing vegan dinner! love it! & love the site! thanks!!!

    Megan

That sounds great, Tamara! Having a husband as your “buddy” makes things more fun, doesn’t it? I’m kinda scared Austin won’t keep it up once I start traveling again this month, so I’m trying to make his meals REALLY tasty until then! πŸ˜‰

I have some fresh intentions that are a continuation from 2011, I find resolutions somewhat disappointing…a big rush and often not a lot of carry through and I like intentions bc they are more long-term with a positive aspect…anywho, way to plan ahead!! I am excited to hear how 30 days is compared to 3!! πŸ™‚ I am sure you will luv it!

I have also start paleo chalenge and love it. I have been combining nataliaΒ΄s rules for about 8 months, but I have needed more energy for workout. Now in paleo I do not have to worry about combining they suggest not to eat fruits on empty stomach only with meal to not spike insulin, well totally different from what I used to eat and how to combine. What do you think about it? I feel tons of energy never hungry(I used to be hungry all the time when I eat only green juice and fruit till noon) Now I limit fruit to one serving berries or local aplle and eat it with meal, I also have breakfast not only green juice and really feel much more better. And guess what I eat much more much more fat about 50-60%of diet and loose 5 pounds in week already.

    Megan

Hi Sam! I think everyone’s body work differently, and whatever makes you feel great is what you should keep doing! I also feel best consuming a diet higher in fat (usually from nuts, seeds and avocados). πŸ˜‰

Hope you’re off to a happy new year!

Yay for green juice!! It really is THE BEST. I just can’t live without it! I’m doing a 10 day (maybe more, we’ll see how it goes) juice feast starting next Monday. My BF and his dad are all doing it together so I’m really excited to see how it goes for them. I also partook in some holiday gluttony and am so, so ready for a cleanse! Good luck with the Rose Cleanse! I’m sure you and everyone in the community will have a great experience!

    Megan

Thanks, Linda! Good luck on your juice feast– I’m excited to hear how it goes for you and the boys, too! πŸ˜‰

Happy New year girl!! Good luck with your cleanse, sounds great. I hope to try going grain free again once I get back home in NC.

Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat

I was totally in green juice withdrawal during my trip to Italy last week! It felt SO SO good to come home and make a green smoothie and a big salad! Good luck to you and Austin on your challenges. One for me is to complete my course with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition this year, which will result in me being a certified health coach. It will be a big time commitment, but I’m so excited about it!

    Megan

Thanks, Angela! Have fun with IIN this year! πŸ˜€

Sara @ Plant Powered Mom

Good luck with your cleanse!

I’m doing a kind of cleanse of my own but more food than what Natalia does (although I adore her books!). I’m cutting out caffeine, sugar, gluten, soy and all processed foods. Just vegetable-based juice and smoothies, lots of veggies to eat and a small amount of whole grains, beans and legumes.

Today was day one and I feel absolutely amazing!!

Keep us posted on your progress!
