Holiday 2011 Gift Ideas

With the holidays quickly approaching, I need to get my act together on the gift-shopping front.

I avoid the malls like the plague around this time of the year, so most of my shopping gets done from the comfort of my own home. (Thank you, Amazon.) Since Austin and I have to travel home for Christmas each year, online shopping also saves us bunches of room in our suitcases–> we simply ship our orders to Kansas, so they’ll be waiting for us there when we arrive!

If you’re in the midst of holiday shopping, too, here are some fun gift ideas I’ve found online that you and your loved ones might enjoy!

MY LATEST VIDEOS

Glass Straws

[source]

Last year, everyone in my family received a set of glass straws from me. When they opened their presents, they all looked at me like, “What the heck is this? Um… thank you?”

Almost a year later, everyone keeps tells me how much they LOVE their glass straws, and how they can’t imagine living without them. Most of them have even ordered second and third sets! There’s just something about glass straws that truly make drinking your green juices, smoothies, milkshakes, and even water so much more fun and tasty!!

Beeswax Candles

[source]

Beeswax Candles are last year’s glass straws <– everyone in my family is getting one this year! (spoiler alert!)

Did you know that beeswax candles may actually improve the air quality in your home? They are the only type of candle that releases negative ions when they burn! In contrast, the use of scented candles may contribute significant quantities of pollutants to the indoor environment, especially soot, benzene and lead. [source]

No, thanks. Even if I do did love my scented candles, I don’t want them polluting my home!

I ordered this pair of beeswax candles for myself (this inevitably happens when I’m shopping for other people!), and I am loving this Etsy store for some unique candle shapes!

Chemex Drip Coffee Carafe

[source]

This is the perfect gift for any coffee lovers in your life. I love that this coffee maker is made of all glass–> reducing your potential exposure to BPA, which may be in some coffee makers with plastic parts. Our favorite coffee shop here in LA, Intelligentsia, uses the Chemex to brew each cup of drip coffee they serve, and it’s truly delicious!

Yonanas

[source]

Almost everyone knows about banana soft serve now, but the Yonanas machine makes it easy to turn any frozen fruit into a creamy dessert! I think this machine would be so fun to use with kids. πŸ˜€

Physique 57 DVDs

Okay, so maybe you shouldn’t give your whole family a set of workout DVDs –> what are you trying to tell them?! LOL. But, if you have a friend or family member who you know loves challenging workouts, it doesn’t get any more fun, or effective, than Physique 57. I’ve been known to bring my friends to the Physique 57 studio, here in Beverly Hills, and they’ve left shaking in pain (good pain, of course). Even friends who’ve completed two rounds of P90X!

I’ve been doing the Physique 57 December challenge this month, and I’m already feeling a difference. Ouch. πŸ˜‰

Veganomicon

[source]

This is one of my go-to cookbooks for vegetable-centric meal ideas. I’m usually guilty of buying cookbooks, then letting them collect dust on my shelves for years… but Veganomicon has managed to keep me coming back with delicious dressings and vegetable dishes. I do tend to avoid any of the recipes calling soy, but I’m sure they’re terrific, too!

Sweet Gratitude

Now that I’ve discovered this book, I never need to make a traditional dessert again. Well, except for Austin’s favorite cookies… he’d probably be pretty upset if I never made those again. But, I have a feeling these AMAZING raw desserts will eventually win him over!

*You might want to gift this book along with a food scale, since the recipes do call for a lot of measurements by weight, rather than by cups.

Using a scale to prepare these recipes ensures that they turn out perfectly every. single. time.

Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen

Once people try Ani’s recipe for Pistachio Pesto in this book, they’ll never go back. Most of her recipes are easy, and free of any complicated equipment, making them easily accessible to everyone!

Tastebook

[source]

If you really want to give a customized gift, full of your favorite recipes (healthy or not!), you can make your own recipe book using Tastebook.com! Every member of my family got one of these from me two Christmases ago, and what I love about the Tastebook set-up, is that it’s a binder–> so you can keep adding to it! You choose the photos, too, so it can get as personalized as you like!
