Wednesday Things

1. Jackie Warner really knows how to make a girl sweat.

personal training with jackie dvds I usually switch up my workout routine every 4-6 weeks, to combat boredom, and I’m loving these two DVDs lately. Jackie’s Power Circuit Training is perfect for squeezing in a quick workout when I’m rushed or feeling unmotivated. There’s a 15 minute total body interval circuit that works in a pinch, along with a longer 40-minute version, as well as individual muscle group circuits if you prefer to break it up throughout the week.

Her Xtreme Timesaver Training is my go-to DVD when I want to push myself even harder. It uses compound moves (think squats with a chest press) to get your heart rate up while toning your muscles all at the same time! With little-to-no break between sets, this workout makes me feel totally out of shape… I’m breathing hard in no time!

Gotta love a workout that’s done in 30 minutes or less.

2. Perhaps my new workouts have improved my shooting arm?

small basketball hoop hanging on the wall

Austin recently installed this small basketball hoop to the wall of our office, so naturally, we played a friendly game of “PIG” last night. I was up by the TWO baskets before Austin came back for the win! Normally, he’d shoot all 3 hoops before I even got close to hitting the backboard. Progress!

On a related note, I really don’t recommend hanging a basketball in your office. I cringe every time we miss… and the ball nearly hits a computer screen.

3. I’ve created a milkshake monster.

peanut butter banana milkshake in a glass with a straw

In an attempt to keep Austin’s weekend a little healthier, I talked him into letting me make him a homemade “milkshake” instead of going out for one. I figured I couldn’t go wrong with blending together a couple of frozen bananas, natural peanut butter, almond milk, cocoa powder, maple syrup and ice in the Vitamix.

And I was right! It’s insanely good.ย

Too good, in fact. Now he’d rather have a milkshake than dinner.

4. Have you heard about iHerb’s trial offers?

bottles of madre labs shampoo, conditioner, and body wash

I ended up getting these full-size bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash for just $3 a bottle! I already loved iHerb for their cheaper prices and free shipping, but now I love them even more. The trial offerings are always changing, so I’m excited to try something new next time! If you’re a new customer, you can even get $5 off your first order by using this code: MIG017

I’m pretty glad I didn’t pay full price for these bottles, too. Not my favorite. ๐Ÿ™

5. My new Kindle makes traveling so much better.

kindle and cup of coffee on a table

Not only is it light and portable, it’s also very discreet–> so my neighbors aren’t tempted to ask me about the book I’m reading.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I chose this particular book off the Amazon best-seller list. Holy geez, I’m blushing.

Firstly, I really need to get on the whole home workout DVD train! I guess I’ve just worked out in a gym/outside for so long that it’s become a habit, but I’ve heard so much about the Jackie (and Jillian) vids that I think I need to try them out! And second, your milkshake sounds delicious! Just think how much money you’ll save too by not going out. Maybe you can put it in a jar and the next time you have a PIG tournament (without breaking any computer screens of course) the winner gets the $$!

    Megan @ The Detoxinista

I love the $$ jar idea!

If you do decide to try a workout DVD, I’d recommend Jackie’s since you’re already pretty fit. They really are intense, and leave me feeling like I got a gym-quality workout!

Emily

That milkshake sounds heavenly!
How is the Tracy Anderson mini trampoline workout?
It’s not exactly the best of the best, but my sister passed me the rainforest shampoo and conditioner from the body shop and whilst it didn’t work for her, it’s actually been leaving me with really soft hair. For free I can’t complain ๐Ÿ™‚

    Megan @ The Detoxinista

To be honest, I’ve only been motivated to use the Tracy Anderson DVD once. I guess it wasn’t as “fun” as I was expecting– maybe due to the music? It’s definitely a good workout, and works muscles that my “free style” bouncing doesn’t normally work, but it was hard for me to keep up for the whole 30 minutes. It’s one of those routines that would be hard to use your own music, too, because you really need to bounce on the beat to keep up with Tracy– she changes moves very quickly!

I’m hoping I’ll like it more when I do decide to try it again, but since I’m traveling for work right now, that probably won’t happen until May!

    Thanks for the shampoo idea!

      Emily

Thanks! I found her mat workout a bit this way, so did it until I learned the moves & now do them to my own choice in music (although still go back to the original every now and then).

OMG Megan I read all 3 of the books in like a week and yes it make me blush too I didn’t know what I was getting my self into ๐Ÿ™‚ but they are making it into a movie and I think William Levy should play Mrs. Gray. How do you like the Tracy Anderson workout. I was looking into getting the trampoline

    Megan @ The Detoxinista

Ha, I’m glad I’m not the only one blushing. And, I’ll probably read the rest of the trilogy, because I like to do that before movies come out.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I definitely recommend getting a trampoline!!!! I love my Needak rebounder— it’s definitely one of the best investments I’ve made in the last 5 years. Don’t be tempted to buy a “cheap” one. My first one was $80, and Austin and I nearly killed ourselves trying to put it together! We actually returned it because we felt it was too dangerous. The nicer ones are definitely worth the money!

I’ll let you know what I think of the Tracy DVD once I’ve used it a bit more. So far, I’m not totally sold… but, I may change my mind with a few more attempts. ๐Ÿ™‚

mmm….want a milkshake NOW! so funny about the book…my mom was travelling to australia last week and was looking for books to download on her kindle. since this book was at the top of the bestsellers list, she almost downloaded it. THANK GOODNESS she asked me about it first….she would have been scandalized ๐Ÿ™‚

    Megan @ The Detoxinista

That’s so funny– I was just telling my mom last night that I didn’t want her to EVER read it!! And I’m sure she’d feel the same way about ME reading it, too… ha ha. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Gillian

That’s awesome about iHerb! And I’m all over milkshakey smoothies for dinner MMM!!!

Have you tried the Tracy trampoline workout yet? Wondering if I should order!

Izabela (yoginiselfportrayal.wordpress.com)

I’ m going to the kitchen to make a milkshake right now!!!

carrie

Please post the recipe for that shake!!!! I’m going to try to wing it while I wait ๐Ÿ™‚

    Megan

I’ll definitely do that once I actually write down what I throw in there. ๐Ÿ™‚

Confused….are you saying you like the iHerb products or not? At the end of that section you said “not my favorite.” What is your favorite? I have yet to find a natural shampoo, conditioner or soap that I like.

    Megan

Sorry for the confusion! No, I didn’t like the trial bottles that I got from iHerb– that’s why I’m grateful to them for their cheap “trial” prices, so I didn’t waste much money.

I have yet to find a natural shampoo or conditioner that I love, either. Right now I’m using a natural brand that I find at Target (can’t remember the name), but I’m hoping there’s a better option out there!
