What I Ate: Food Photography

Like many people, I have a tendency to procrastinate.

I’ve had a goal, for months now, to prepare and take photos of all of the recipes that won’t be pictured in my cookbook, so that you all will have a visual reference for every single recipe. The book is already loaded with TONS of gorgeous recipe photos, but like most cookbooks, a few of the recipes don’t have a photo– so I’m going to make up for that by posting the rest of the photos here on the site for your reference.

(Here’s a peek at some of the beautiful photos and recipes in the book!)

Food photography takes time, and I’ve been putting off these photos for months because I didn’t want to take the time to do any “food styling.” I prefer to just make my food and eat it! But, the book is coming out in 8 weeks (yay!), so it’s time to get cracking. This week, I enjoyed a handful of recipes from the cookbook, and made sure to photograph them, too. My photos aren’t as gorgeous as the ones in the book, but hopefully they’ll give you a good enough idea of what the food should look like.

Below is a peek at what I’ve been eating this week, along with a preview of some of the recipes from the cookbook!

chocolate shake, muffins, salad, raw falafel wraps, and thai-style lettuce wraps

Morning: I started my day with a Chocolate Superfood Shake (recipe will be shared in the pre-order bonus pack later this month), followed by a Banana Coconut Muffin. I love these muffins because they are grain-free, egg-free, nut-free, and 100% sweetened with fruit, so they’re allergy friendly and healthy enough to share with my toddler. He LOVES them!

Early Afternoon: After my son’s nap, we shared a salad topped with avocado and veggies (he mostly eats a few bites of avocado from it), and three eggs scrambled in grass-fed butter.

Late Afternoon: Raw Falafel Wraps. Traditional falafel is deep fried, which is not only unhealthy but also time consuming! This no-bake falafel filling is hydrating and loaded with nutrients, and takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, so you get all the flavor you love without the effort or greasy side effects.

Evening: Thai-Style Lettuce Wraps and “Beef” and Broccoli over jasmine rice. (My boys love these two recipes!) The lettuce wraps are my vegetarian and oil-free take on PF Chang’s popular chicken lettuce wraps, and the “Beef” and Broccoli takes care of the cravings for my childhood favorite– it’s free of any starchy thickeners or gums, and tastes just as addictive as the Chinese take-out version!

Dessert: I shared a picture on Instagram, but forgot to include it here– I finally mastered the egg-free and grain-free brownies! They’re insanely good, with the perfect chewy texture, so I’ll be sure to post them as soon as I can. Stay tuned!

Overall, this was definitely a “fancier” day of eats compared to my usual routine (I don’t usually make that many meals from scratch in one day), but it’s fun to shake things up every now and then.

Laura ~ Raise Your Garden

I hate to admit this, but I’m eating chicken and broccoli with a salad for every meal. We’re going on vacation on Friday and when I tried on all my vacation clothes…..nothing fit!!! Like I was shocked I gained that much weight over the long winter. But it was a really cold winter and we couldn’t get outside (nothing like a good excuse!!!)

Anyhow, I love those lettuce wraps and think all your food looks lovely. Just for kicks, my husband and I tried taking some shots of food that we made, and it was hard! We actually have a decent camera so it was definitely the photographer. It’s funny that you don’t know until you try something how difficult it might be!

Thanks for sharing

Love this post we have about 80-90 pastured eggs from my mother so we eat tons of eggs daily:-)

This made me laugh because I have normally eaten my food before I rememeber to take a picture. Whoops!

I bought a bunch of avocados from Costco so I’ve been eating them. They are delicious in my morning smoothies. I love your food photography! Can’t wait for your book!
