What I Ate: Friday, 4/13

Breakfast

Some days, green juice just doesn’t happen.

cup of black coffee with a spoon in itA warm cup of black coffee– with a teaspoon of coconut oil added– wins out on chilly, rainy mornings. I know it looks weird, but my brother turned me onto this idea of adding a healthy fat to your morning cup of coffee (he uses grass-fed butter and blends it in the Vitamix for a latte-effect), and it’s really satisfying!

Also, my lips feel nice and moisturized afterward. ๐Ÿ˜‰

a plate with two fried eggsA couple of fried eggs followed later, cooked in butter. (I obviously haven’t mastered “flipping” eggs in a cast iron skillet)

Lunch

goat cheese wrapped in romain lettuce leafsGoat cheese and Romaine “wraps.” I can eat a whole head of romaine lettuce this way, with mustard and raw goat cheese slices! I had a massage scheduled for the afternoon, so this was a nice light lunch beforehand.

Late-Afternoon Snack

homemade sushi rolls on a plateAll of the sudden, I really wanted sushi. Too impatient to make “rice,” I just used avocado, roasted peppers, cucumbers and sriracha… which makes for really messy sushi. Still delicious, though!

Dinner

salad on a plate with a piece of grilled salmon on topWe had dinner out, where I had my favorite green salad topped with a huge piece of grilled salmon.

Post-Dinner

bar of ghiradelli unsweetened chocolateThis was a dumb idea. I took a couple squares of 100% dark chocolate with me to the movie theater– and gagged at my first bite. I don’t know why I thought I might enjoy this… I’ve been inching my dark chocolate percentage higher and higher lately, but it seems 88% dark chocolate is my sweet spot. That 12% of sweetness is important!!

Needless to say, I enjoyed a Bengal Spice tea “latte” when I got home.

Is spring time…meat time? I noticed that you ate meat the last two days…I’ve been craving meat lately as well, after only having cheese and yogurt for the past few months I had some fish today and it was awesome!

That’s so funny! I also haven’t had meat in months… and all of the sudden it has been appealing to me again. Go figure. Usually, when the weather gets warmer, I’m all about raw foods!

Perhaps my appetite will shift again come summer. ๐Ÿ˜€

Ha Ha Ha…I tried the 100% route one time as well, thinking I was all healthy and awesome. Lesson learned ๐Ÿ™‚

My latest adventure has been with the trader joe’s dark chocolate lovers 85%…they are good but also weirdly fruity and sometimes leave me wanting more…Last night I ate a whole bar and then had to have a big goat yogurt with lots of honey to get my sweet fix:)

So far the absolute best really dark ones I’ve had are endangered species and Chocolove per your rec but I’ve only found these at Full of Life and they are expensive! My daily go-to is the trader joes dark organic; it’s only 72% but delicious. I just splurged and bought their valrona (sp?) brand that is 85%…haven’t tried it yet. I think I need to cut down on my portion size and buy the endangered species one more often…it’s hard not to eat at least a couple of rows though!!!

I tried that 85% “Chocolate Lovers” bar from TJ’s, and I thought it was really fruity, too! Not my favorite, especially compared to the pricier Chocolove bar…

Let me know how you like the new 85% bar! I have no portion control when it comes to chocolate, either. I’m lucky if I only eat half, but that’s a rarity. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ah, the 100% chocolate! I’ve only been on your blog a couple of times, but ended up here to make a sugar free version of your freezer fudge, as I’m doing the 21 Day Sugar Detox. If you have some 100% left over, I melted in some into the freezer fudge and it is just amazingly decadent.

Of course, I’m well into my second week sugar free, so spinach juice is starting to show its natural sweetness. Ordinary mortals may want to add a touch of sweetener ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Megan

Adding the chocolate to the freezer fudge is a brilliant idea! I’ve been trying the sugar-free life, as well, so I think I can handle it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I actually had a 99% bar once that was surprisingly delicious! That 1% made it taste like burnt peanut butter…which I loved ๐Ÿ˜‰
