What I Ate Wednesday

Morning

Un-pictured: Lots of water and two cups of Earl Grey tea, plus a cap full of raw aloe juice. (For some reason, tea sounded better than coffee this week!)

When the weather gets cooler outside, I start craving something a little heavier in the mornings. Instead of green juice, I opted for a green smoothie!

Included in this mix was one frozen banana, a whole avocado, 1 cup strawberries, 2 handfuls of romaine lettuce, a scoop of raw cocoa, water, vanilla, ice and a few drops of liquid stevia. (This makes two glasses worth– I enjoyed both throughout the morning.) It kinda tasted like a chocolate-covered strawberry milkshake!

Lunch

(This new batch is even better than the first!) For some reason, I’ve been craving eggs with my avocado salads lately– so even though it’s not technically properly combined, sometimes my appetite wins out.

I was still feeling a bit “munchy” after this salad, so I followed it with another hard boiled egg!

Dinner

Un-pictured: I snacked on a whole bag of carrots while preparing dinner!

the delicate place

i am eating homemade coconut flour & flax protein ‘cakes,’ green smoothies, bison burgers, raw green soup, roasted brussels & bok choy and white fish veracruz tonight. i’ll prob run out of this food by tomorrow since it was prepped mostly on sunday. this helps me eat healthy for lunch and dinners during my work week. i usually go to whole foods on thurs after work for a produce stock up and then hit trader joes on the weekend to get the rest of my groceries for the next week. i only buy enough food to last me 7 days so i waste nothing ๐Ÿ™‚

    Sounds like you’re very organized! There’s nothing worse than wasting food– especially fresh produce! I currently have to go to the store every 3 days, because my fridge is so darn small… I’m hoping to remedy that in the future. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh wow, that smoothie looks delicious! I recently tried your chocolate cherry avocado pudding, and it was the best dessert I’ve had in a long time! I’ve also been eating a lot of salads and soups. Love seeing your Wednesday eats, by the way! I look forward to it each week! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yummy…cooler weather has me eating a few grounding things as well. Lots of sweet potatoes and lentils this week, plus a few servings of brown rice with kale and sesame oil ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s weird though, we’ve had this crazy mix of hot and cool weather so I’ve been craving smoothies too!

Love your chococado, but now I use a block of sprouted tofu instead of avocado because avo doesn’t sit well with me anymore (I know, it sucks!). My new favorite is with pumpkin. Lots of your banana soft serve with almond butter as well…plus last night I tried a soft serve with almond milk and frozen mango, it was awesome!

    I went through a period of time where I couldn’t have avocado anymore, either! (My whole face would burn after eating one!) So strange, but I hope it eventually passes for you, too! I bet tofu makes a good and creamy substitute!

    Mmm… I bet that mango ice cream was delicious, too!

Lots of salads, soup, sweet potatoes, eggs, and chocolate:) I have a quick question for you. Is it okay to eat banana soft serve or chococado pudding after meals? I am usually careful about that because of your post on fruit digesting very fast, and how it can rot in your stomach. I just noticed how you occasionally mention enjoying these things after meals. So is it fine? Would love to hear your thoughts on this!! Thanks:)

    It depends on the meal that you’re eating first! You’ll notice that before I have my avocado pudding, I’m enjoying a salad with only leafy greens, raw vegetables and avocado– which combines perfectly with more avocado and fruit in the pudding afterward. (After all, avocado is technically a fruit! Fruit, with the exception of melons, digest well with raw leafy greens.)

    Bananas are a rare exception to the fruit rule, as they also combine well with nuts and seeds. So, you’ll notice that I had a raw salad dressed with a tahini-based dressing first, then my banana-almond butter ice cream, keeping the entire meal properly combined.

    I wouldn’t follow any cooked meals or flesh-based meals with one of these desserts, although you might be able to have an avocado-pudding (without the fruit) after a baked potato or winter squash meal. Hope that helps!

Sounds like you had a pretty ‘carby’ day! (i.e, banana, banana, carrots).

I realize you said you ate 2 boiled eggs..and I realize each individual is different. But in general, how does one know how much protein to consume to sustain for the day?

I used to be a high protein (mainly animal) lover – the more the better! Here lately (since getting off grains and high veggie carbs; like potatoes, etc. and cutting waaaay back on the natural sugars) I have found that I prefer to eat Cheese/Yogurt/Eggs/Nuts with very occasional animal protein. It just tastes better! I am always concerned to try and get enough… I also only eat within a 4 or 5 hr window, and I don’t limit how much I eat – so may end up (easily) eating 3-4 boiled eggs, a chunk of Gouda and a handful of almonds with my veggies. Then I will have desert with yogurt/tahini/quarter-half an apple with stevia.

Sorry to ramble! I’m probably getting plenty of pro. but was just curious.

Is lower protein what is done on a ‘detox’ day?

I have been eating lots of soups! Last week I made a quinoa soup and this week I made chicken noodle soup but used spaghetti squash for the noodles! Both were a success!!

Your green chocolate smoothie sounds DELICIOUS! Did the avocado flavor come through or was it just chocolaty? (Btw, you’re not the only one who’s gone through a whole bag of carrots by herself before… ;))
