What I Ate Wednesday

I’m traveling for work this week, which reminds me to really appreciate LA weather– it’s FREEZING here in the Midwest! Yet, for some reason, I still can’t get enough of my morning green smoothies.

I’ve been taking these smoothies to work, which always sparks some fun conversations in the office. Green smoothies haven’t quite caught on among my co-workers yet, despite my best efforts. At least they all know the smoothies taste good, even if they are green!

This combo has been a favorite of mine all month– frozen banana, Sunwarrior, fresh spinach, sunflower seed butter, cinnamon, water and ice.

Followed by some un-pictured almond butter fudge (made without honey)… I was so excited to eat it, I forgot to take a picture.

peeled clementine

A perfectly sweet “cutie.” When these clementines are in season, I can easily go through a box a week by myself. I look forward to winter because of these!

I actually used a couple more clementines to whip up an Orange Ginger salad dressing, which I served over mixed greens with a few more olives.

Followed by a large bowl of homemade Cheesy Cauliflower soup. I may be eating soup every night for the rest of my trip… it’s the only thing that sounds appealing when it’s below freezing each evening!

And, thanks to the I Quit Sugar challenge, I haven’t needed anything sweet in the evenings. It’s pretty nice not worrying about sugar cravings!

Will you share your cheesy cauliflower soup recipe?

Marg S

My vote, too! Please share recipe for your salad dressing, as well! Thanks in advance!

The soup recipe is posted now, but the dressing will have to wait… it needs some more tweaking before it’s good enough to share!

the delicate place

i ALWAYS get weird questions about my morning hemp shake ๐Ÿ™‚ i just feel so much better after i drink it for breakfast, def a go to for me. i’m thankful i didn’t have any of the snow in PA from the midwest! too soon for that! eating lots of smoked salmon this week and avocado! thinking of doing a 3 day super green juice cleanse by urban remedy but i’m not sure it’s worth it truth be told. i’m not looking to lose weight but just be gentle on my system since i’ve been under quite a bit of stress lately.

How do you have home-made meals while travelling? I used to travel a lot for work and I hated to go out for every single meal.

For some trips, I have to eat out every night, too. Luckily, my parents live in this area, so I can use their kitchen while I’m here. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love these posts!

This week I’ve tried a few more recipes from Doris Choi’s cookbook – the Moroccan Tagine, the green curry, the white yam ‘cookies’ with coconut, the raw pasta sauce… And also I made a sweet potato soup with nutritional yeast, harissa and garlic which came out really nicely. I’ve also been drinking banana ‘milk’ with cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon, so good!

I just got my copy from Doris! I can’t wait to try some of the recipes in the book. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have been having almost the same smoothie as you daily for a week or so–thanks to you! I use Vega Smoothie Energizer (natural) and baby kale instead of spinach. But oh my, I drink it so fast after I teach bootcamp and do my workout! Thanks so much, because sometimes I’m at a loss for what to put in my smoothies!

Hi Megan.
I have a question for you.
Could I use frozen spinach instead of fresh.
Have you tried it?

I use frozen spinach or kale in my smoothies all the time! Frozen spinach or other greens (and also frozen fruit) takes the place of adding ice cubes to smoothies and makes the smoothies so refreshing!

I have tried it, but sometimes the flevor is a little to rich.
      Mayby fresh is better?

Fresh spinach is MUCH better in my opinion, since the flavor is more mild. It blends right in, without adding a “green” taste.

          Thanks Megan for answer.
          I will try that.
And thanks for all the delicious recipes.

Please share your cauliflower soup recipe.

Also, how do you make all of this while traveling? Please share your travel tips!!!

What is the recipe for the cauliflower soup. It looks great!

How does the sunwarrier protien powder you use combine? Would this be considered a “protien” or a “nut/seed” since it has hempseed powder in it? Thanks!

Yes, I combine it as a nut/seed, which is why it works well with bananas! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ah ok- guess I have to wait until im off the candida cleanse to eat bananas though right?!

It depends on which expert you ask! Some don’t believe that fruit feeds yeast at all, but others would argue that it does.

Hi Megan – My yummy smootie these days is similar to yours ut with a pumpkin pie twist!

1 cup Almond milk, a frozen banana, 2 tbsp hemp protien powder (I’m waiting for my Sun Warrior order to arrive in the mail!), half cup of organic pumpkin, 2 handfuls of chopped swiss chard, 1 tbsp of chia seeds, 1tsp pumpkin pie spice and 7 drops of Nu-Naturals Vanilla Stevia.

Would it be poor combining to add some greek yogurt to this? Thanks! Crista

Where did you get the constrained holding your smoothie?
Great site!

That was suppose to be container…lol

How much Sun Warrior Protein do you typically put in your smoothies? Do you use the scoop or measure by another means. I have found a whole scoop (the one that comes in the bag) is much more than a serving by weight. I also have found one whole serving by weight (hardly anything) to be unpalatable for me. I really love this protein powder otherwise, I think I just need some tips to make it taste ok to me.
