Gather the ingredients.

This is what you'll need for flavorful black beans, or you can just use beans and water for a plain version.

Saute the onion.

Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the pot and saute the onion until softened. Add in the garlic, cumin, and oregano, too.

Deglaze the pot.

Add 1/2 cup of water and scrape the bottom of the pot to remove any brown bits.

Add the beans & water.

Add in the dry beans and 4 1/2 cups more water, along with the bay leaf and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Cook at high pressure.

05.

Move the steam release valve to Sealing and cook at high pressure for 50 minutes.

The beans are cooked!

06.

Remove the bay leaf and simmer away the excess liquid by using the Sauté button.
