It’s not often that you can make something bright blue without using artificial food coloring, but that’s exactly what we’re doing with this blue smoothie recipe. It’s naturally blue and tastes like a tropical drink!
Add the pineapple, banana, milk, orange juice, and blue spirulina to a high-speed blender. Secure the lid and blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
Taste the mixture and make any necessary adjustments. You can add more milk for a thinner consistency, or a little ice for a thicker texture. When you're satisfied with the flavor and texture, serve it immediately.
Notes
Nutrition information is for the whole batch. This calculation is based on generic ingredients, so it is an estimate, not a guarantee. Variation: I also tested adding blue spirulina to my Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie recipe. If you prefer a lower-sugar drink, that worked as well. (But my kids didn't like it as much as this one.) Vegan Note: This recipe is dairy-free and vegan when you use a non-dairy milk, like soy milk. (That's what I tested this recipe with.) Almond milk, hemp milk, or oat milk will also work.
