Fun Facts about Megan
- Working in a restaurant changed her life. Megan’s family relied on drive-thru windows when she was a kid, so she learned most of what she knows from working in a restaurant for 5 years. The chefs taught her how to make salad dressings and curry sauces from scratch while she worked as a barista, waitress, and eventually restaurant manager.
- Her husband didn’t eat animal products when they met. This coincided with the time when she was learning how to cook, so she suddenly had to do it without meat, dairy, or honey. Megan loves a good challenge, and this is why you’ll find so many dairy-free and vegan options on this website, even though she doesn’t follow a vegan diet herself.
- She loves exact measurements. One of Megan’s pet peeves is when a recipe instructs you to “salt to taste” without providing a suggested starting point. Most home cooks tend to under-salt food, so her recipes will always give a suggested measurement so you don’t wind up with a bland meal.
- She prefers gluten-free baking. Megan briefly followed an elimination diet while breastfeeding, which included eliminating gluten. While she no longer has to eat 100% gluten-free, many people in her life do, so she made it her mission to create gluten-free recipes that taste just as delicious as the traditional versions. (Like these GF Cinnamon Rolls.)
- She seeks out donuts while traveling. Megan and her husband have strong opinions when it comes to donuts. The best one in New York? Daily Provisions. In Kansas City? Fluffy Fresh. In Los Angeles? Blinkies donuts. (Worth a drive to the valley.)
