I’m often asked what type of products I use in my hair, so I wanted to share what I’ve been using for the past month.

morrocco shampoo bottlesThe folks at Morrocco Method reached out to me a while back to see if I’d like to sample their all-natural hair care line, and after looking at the ingredients in their products, I was happy to try them out! They are by far one of the cleanest hair care companies around, with their raw, vegan shampoos containing no sodium lauryl sulfate, soy, gluten or GMOs. Plus, I can actually understand all the ingredients on the label! (They also receive a top rating on the EWG’s Skin Deep database.)

Unlike most shampoos, which lather and foam, shampoos that don’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate are low sudsing and non foaming, so they can take a bit of getting used to. If you’re looking for an “all natural” shampoo that smells and acts like the traditional shampoos you’re accustomed to, these may not be for you. I was surprised to see that the Morrocco Method shampoos look more like mud, with a grainy, exfoliating texture, so they can take some getting used to!

There’s definitely no doubt that this shampoo is all natural, and it actually reminds me of when I attempted to wash my hair with baking soda and apple cider vinegar–> only these shampoos are WAY more pleasant than that experience. (I recall getting apple cider vinegar in my nose and eyes… ouch.)

Not surprisingly, my favorite shampoo of their five options is the Apple Cider Vinegar shampoo! According to the company, this shampoo is formulated to increase the blood flow to the scalp, increasing the activity of the sebaceous glands to flush out debris, oil buildup, and unhealthy bacteria. While it doesn’t smell as perfume-like as other shampoos on the market, I found it left a pleasant apple cider scent to my hair!

I’ll admit, these shampoos are so natural that it took me quite a while to decide if I liked them or not. At first, my hair didn’t feel as “clean” as I’m used to and the conditioner didn’t leave my hair feeling as silky as traditional products on the market. But, over time, I’ve been pleased to see that my naturally fine and curly hair has less frizz and needs less conditioning overall. After a good shampooing, my hair feels nice and healthy, without the need for conditioner every time I wash.

  1. Thanks for EWG link.

I’ve been wanting to ask you what all you use on skin and hair? And household cleaners ?

Links to other good resources or your past blogs?
    Shampoos
    Conditioners
    Lotions
    Body scrubs/shower gels
    Soaps
    Liquid hand soap
    Sunscreen
Hand sanitizer when out and about

    Household cleansers?

What specific ingredients do you avoid?
    Thanks!!

  2. I’ve had trouble with brittle and falling out hair for years, due to a thyroid condition. Even though I had the defective thyroid removed and am on a good dose of thyroxine, I still have the same issues. I end up with frizzy looking hair because it is so many different lengths. So these shampoos sound like they would be worth trying. Thank you for posting this.

  3. I’ve been using the Moccorro Method haircare products for a couple years now. I really like them – my hair has never looked so shiny! I find that I don’t need to use conditioner at all. The shampoo alone does a great job of cleaning while not stripping you hair of natural oils.

  4. I’ve been looking for a good natural shampoo and conditioner and will try it out, thanks for the discount! I am just starting to use henna as a colorant and have been happy with that, I’ll have to try their henna. It’s hard to ‘do’ your own hair though when it’s long like mine.

  5. First off… YAY for your “labor month”!!! Thanks for the great info. I love to hear about new products that I can actually feel good about using.

  6. I’m so sorry to hear your no-poo experience didn’t go so well! It’s just not for everyone I guess. But I’m really glad you posted this, I’ve been thinking of buying an all natural shampoo to use to wash out my coconut oil hair masks. (I’m no-poo and baking soda does not get coconut oil out) I checked these out and they sound wonderful 🙂 none of those ingredients would mess up my no-poo transition! Do you think the shampoos would be strong enough to remove coconut oil? You said your hair didn’t feel as clean at first, but maybe that was you just getting used to your hair with a new shampoo?
