This bubbly drink features Natural Calm, a powdered magnesium supplement that I’ve been using for a few years. I’ve found it helpful during stressful times, especially when traveling. The main ingredient in Natural Calm is magnesium citrate, which is thought to be the most affordable and easily absorbed type of magnesium. (Magnesium oxide, on the other hand, I do not recommend. It’s poorly absorbed and, as a result, can cause some unpleasant side effects.)

The plain flavor of Natural Calm is a little difficult to enjoy on its own, so I prefer the Raspberry Lemon flavor, which is sweetened with organic stevia. Perfect for those of you avoiding sugar! Natural Calm is also available in Cherry, Orange and Lemon flavors, so feel free to experiment!

I’ve been known to drink this stuff straight, just mixed in water, but creating this spritzer does make it a little more fun–> like a mineral-rich, sparkling lemonade.

Sugar-Free Calming Spritzer
serves 1

Ingredients:

1 teaspoon Raspberry Lemon Natural Calm
8 oz. sparkling mineral waterr
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (about half a lemon)
liquid stevia, to taste

Directions:

In a large glass, combine the Natural Calm and mineral water, stirring well. It will bubble up quite a bit, so be sure to use a big glass!

*Note: I don’t recommend drinking carbonated water on a regular basis, as carbonated gas (which is added to the water) has been linked to dental erosion and gastrointestinal issues. If you are weaning yourself off regular or diet soda, this is a great transition option! However, if you’d like to make this drink even healthier, skip the carbonated water and use still water instead. You’ll still have a delicious drink!

  1. I’ve seen this at Whole Foods but have never bought it. Thanks for the post giving is the scoop about it. I wonder if one of the flavored varieties would be advisable to add to a child’s plain water beverage, like the Amazing Grass powder for kid? Also, do you know if it’s organic or non-GMO?   2. A naturopath prescribed mag citrate for me and I was amazed I slept better. Both mag citrate and vit d supplements helped me wean off anti-depressants more easily (medically supervised). Just increase slowly to avoid loose bowels.

  3. I’m confused, the website you linked to states that carbonated water was only slightly connected to dental erosion and the claims about calcium loss were unfounded.

    1. Yes, that wasn’t the best example. I’ve updated the link to another page which states that studies have proven the dental erosion aspect. Obviously, there are plenty of contradictory reports out there! I’ve heard so many conflicting opinions, I’m not sure what to believe. I just want to make sure people don’t think I’m endorsing carbonated water as a “health drink.”

  4. Interesting idea to try – thanks! I read the link about potential risks of soda water and was left with a different conclusion. It didn’t seem to show a substantial increase in dental erosion or calcium loss.

I’ve updated the link to another page stating that studies have come to the conclusion that it does cause dental erosion… though, I’m sure there are plenty of contradictory reports out there!   5. HI…i’ve been using Calm as a mag supplement also but have found it causes inflamation in my gums! crazy…. i started using it for constipation…once every other day. I had to stop
