2012 Healthy Holiday Gift Guide

It’s that time of year again! If you’re looking for some healthy holiday gifts to share with your friends and family, you’ll find my favorite ideas listed below.

1. Glass Straws.

set of four glass straws

These glass straws have been featured in my Holiday Gift Guide for the past two years, and with good reason. I have given a set to everyone I know! Some may be a bit hesitant to try glass straws, but once they do, I know they’ll be hooked. In fact, most people ask me where I bought them so they can order another set. These straws make everything taste better, including green juices and smoothies!

Plus, they’re practically indestructible. If they do break, the company will replace them for free– for life!

2. Lifefactory Glass Bottles.

lifefactory glass bottle

While there are plenty of BPA-free bottles on the market, who knows if they’re using another toxic substance in our plastic bottles that we’ll find out is dangerous down the line.

That’s why these glass bottles are a safe bet– they’re 100% non-toxic! They come in a variety of pretty colors, and have a protective sleeve for easy gripping and to prevent breakage. Plus, they don’t leave add any taste to your beverage, like some stainless steel bottles do.

3. A Healthy Cookbook! My new favorites include:

4. Healthy Lifestyle Books. Truly life-changing reads for your loved ones!

5. A Spiralizer.

spiralizerThis is a fun kitchen gadget to share with your friends and family. Include a recipe card for Sweet Potato Noodles, so they know how to get started! Imagine all the healthy dinner parties you’ll be invited to next year!

6. A Body Brush.

two body brushes on a folded towl

This is such an easy and affordable gift! Body brushing increases circulation and exfoliates skin, leaving you with a healthy glow. (It also may reduce the appearance of cellulite– a bonus!)

You could pair this with a jar of your favorite coconut oil for a skin-glowing gift! (See the DIY gift ideas below.)

7. Physique 57 DVDs.

Physique 57 DVDsMy favorite workout of all time! I love Physique 57, because this low-impact workout is safe for all levels. I’ve never seen such amazing results with any other workout. Plus, it’s nearly impossible to plateau! The better you get at the workouts, the better your form gets– making the workouts even more challenging.

This complete set comes with everything you need, including the playground ball and air pump!

8. A Fitbit.

black fitbit

This little gadget is a great gift for any of your fitness buddies! It tracks your daily steps, distance, calories burned and stairs climbed, plus it comes with online support for tracking your food intake. On my weekend hikes, it will even let me know when I’ve climbed as high as the Eiffel Tower!

My favorite part? You can link up with your friends online to keep yourself accountable. When I see how many steps my best friend has taken, it’s good motivation for me to step away from the computer and get moving. Such a fun way to keep in touch with long-distance friends and family!

9. Le Creuset Cast Iron Skillet.

le creuset red cast iron skillet

Cast iron is the only type of “non-stick” pan in my kitchen. Sure, there are new “green” non-stick pans on the market, but when in doubt, I think it’s always best to use what your grandmother would have used.

Le Creuset has a special enameled surface, ensuring that it won’t react to acidic foods like other cast iron skillets. It also doesn’t need to be seasoned, which is why this pan in on my own wish list this year. I’m done with seasoning my old cast iron skillet! (Breathing in those fumes for an hour can’t be good for your health.)

10. DIY gifts. If you feel like getting creative, try one of these options!

crockpot and cinnamon sticks

A mini food warmer + a bundle of cinnamon sticks = A pleasant non-toxic home fragrance!

jar of coconut oil and bottle of olive oil

A jar of coconut oil + a bottle of olive oil = An all-natural skin care set!

*Note: Use these chalkboard labels and small glass bottles to make it extra special. Label the coconut oil as “Coconut Body Butter” and the olive oil as “Olive Oil Face Wash,” and attach a note with instructions on how to use olive oil to wash your face!

paleo chocolate chip cookie mix in a glass jar[source]

Give the gift of grain-free cookies!

Fill a small glass jar with the correct amounts of almond flour, sea salt, baking soda and dark chocolate chips to make one batch of Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies. Use a pretty ribbon to attach the printed recipe to the jar, so the recipient can add the wet ingredients and bake!

(Obviously, this would work with any cookie recipe– pick your favorite!)

This is a fantastic list! I’m going to check out a few of those items for myself! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you!!!

Red Deception

I have everything on the list EXCEPT the Fitbit and cast-iron pan. I have “non-stick” pots and pans which are starting to peel (ew), so I am vying for cast-iron. Hopefully Santa will be generous this year!

Sounds like we have similar taste! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve been holding out on the Le Creuset pan, assuming that if I seasoned my cheap, old cast iron pan enough, it would eventually be the same. But after years of trying, it’s still a huge pain to clean. I’m hoping Santa will be generous this year, too!

Awesome list. I think this is my favourite that I’ve seen, thank you!

Thank you!! Most of these are going directly on to my Xmas list! I will definitely give someof these to others as well. Thanks again!

Neat ideas – really like the DIY ideas!

I just wrote about why I love body brushing on my blog last week – I really think it has helped me to lose weight but even if it isn’t, it still feels amazing.

The Delicate Place (@misathemeb)

great ideas! i have dharma straws and love them. re: dry brushing, do you practice this regularly and notice anything? i hear quite a bit about it but was reluctant to try it but winter might be the best time to start! i love giving mixed nuts with evoo/rosemary or sachets of gourmet tea or coffee if i know the person’s taste preference ๐Ÿ™‚

I do try to practice dry brushing regularly, though sometimes I’ll forget to do it for weeks at a time… whoops. When I am consistent, I do think my skin looks better and firmer.

This is honestly the best type of list ever. Every single one of these are absolutely great! Thanks so much for sharing your ideas

Lindsay Loves Veggies

Love it! What wonderful ideas! I would love to get a spiralizer for Christmas! I also love the idea of giving coconut and olive oils in cute containers. I use both of those products daily, and it would be fun to spread the healthy love!

Chef Almost Vegan

Thanks so much for featuring Practically Raw, Megan! Great list! I’m actually planning on getting myself a Le Creuset skillet (finally!) for Xmas ๐Ÿ™‚

tayler alexis

do you need to buy the barre to do the physique 57 dvd workout at home?

Nope, you definitely don’t need a bar! I use one of my dining room chairs for support. ๐Ÿ™‚

I add two books from Dr Cate Shanahan MD Deep nutrition and Food rules
I have all books from your list but when you want something more about nutrition these are better. I can not recomend Kim Snyder book cause she suggest vegan diet and after spending couple of years as vegan I can not recommend this kind of diet.

Christy Dennis

Love your list! Thanks so much for sharing!
