Date Snickers will satisfy your candy craving with just four simple ingredients. This sweet treat can be assembled in minutes!

Dates help mimick the flavor of traditional Snickers bars by adding a chewy texture and a caramel like flavor. There’s no need to mix anything together, so these bite-sized treats are ready to enjoy in no time.

This stuffed date recipe is naturally gluten-free and vegan when you use dairy-free chocolate chips, so it’s the perfect dessert to keep on hand. Compared to a regular candy bar, you’ll get extra fiber and antioxidants with each bite!

Ingredients You’ll Need

If possible, shop for Medjool dates that look plump. The best dates will be easy to pull apart with your fingers to remove the pit in the middle.

(I find these in the grocery store’s produce section, rather than the bulk bins.)

dates, peanuts, peanut butter and chocolate chips labeled on parchment paper.

Paired with peanut butter or cashew butter, peanuts, and melted dark chocolate, you probably have everything else you need in your pantry. Flaky sea salt is a bonus, but optional.

For extra crunch, feel free to use crunchy peanut butter!

How to Make Date Snickers

Split the dates in half and remove the pits in the center. Arrange the date halves with the cetner facing up on a plate or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Each date will create two fun-size treats, so prepare as many as you’d like to have on hand. (I tend to use 9 large dates at a time.)

dates split in half and spread with peanut butter.

Spread about a half teaspoon of nut butter on each date half. The amount will vary depending on the size of each date, but feel free to be generous.

Next, sprinkle chopped or crushed peanuts on top of the nut butter. This will add a nice crunch to each piece!

peanuts added to dates and topped with melted chocolate.

Melt roughly a 1/4 cup of chocolate chips for every 8 large Medjool dates you plan on using. I make a double boiler to do this by filling a small saucepan with 1-inch of water.

Bring the water to a boil on the stove top and cover the top of the pot snugly with a heat-safe bowl. Add the chocolate chips and stir often until they have melted.

Alternatively, you can melt the chocolate chips in a heat-safe bowl in the microwave using 30-second intervals.

Use a spoon to drizzle the melted chocolate on top of each date half. There’s no need to fully dip these in the chocolate because the date is already sweet! I think these taste best with only chocolate on top.

While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle some flaky sea salt on top for a sweet and salty treat.

chocolate and salt added to each date on a plate.

Repeat the process until all of the dates have been topped with chocolate. Place the plate or pan in the fridge or freezer to help the chocolate harden faster.

As soon as it’s firm, these are ready to eat!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use peanuts?

No, you can use almond butter and chopped almonds for the center, if you prefer. Or use sunflower seeds and sunflower butter for a nut-free option.

How long do Date Snickers last?

All of these ingredients are shelf-stable, so they should last for at least a week at room temperature. They will last even longer if you store them in the fridge.

What if my chocolate is difficult to spread?

If the melted chocolate is too thick, you can add a small amount of coconut oil to the mixture to help thin out the consistency. In that case, you will need to keep the date snickers chilled, so the chocolate doesn’t get too soft.

Ingredients

  • 9 squishy Medjool dates
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter (or other nut butter)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped peanuts
  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips
  • flaky sea salt (optional topping)

Instructions

  • Use your fingers to split each date in half and remove the pit in the center. If you prefer, you can use a knife to carefully cut them in half. Arrange the date halves cut-side up on a plate lined with parchment paper.
  • Add roughly a ½ teaspoon of peanut butter to the center of each date half. Then sprinkle the chopped peanuts on top so that each piece will have some crunch.
  • Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler (or in the microwave) until smooth. To make a double boiler, add an inch of water to a small saucepan and bring that to a boil on the stovetop. Place a heat-safe bowl snugly over the top of the pan and add the chocolate chips. Stir until the steam melts the chocolate.
  • Use a spoon to drizzle the melted chocolate over each date half. Only the top of the date needs to be coated, since the bottom will already be sweet from the date. Sprinkle flaky sea salt over the top while the chocolate is still shiny.
  • Place the plate in the fridge for 10 minutes or until the chocolate is firm. Then, these are ready to eat! Date snickers can be stored at room temperature for at least a week, or store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month.

Notes

Nutrition information is for two stuffed date halves, assuming you make 18 total and use all the ingredients listed. This information is automatically calculated using generic ingredients, so it’s just an estimate, not a guarantee.
Peanut Note: If you’re not a fan of peanuts, feel free to swap them for cashews, almonds, pistachios, or sunflower seeds. (The nut butter can be swapped, too!) I like these best with a salted nut butter, so the flavor isn’t too sweet.
