This Strawberry Smoothie tastes like a healthy Strawberry Milkshake. It reminds me of the Strawberry Creme Frappucino from Starbucks, only this version is naturally sweetened with fruit.

Keep in mind, this recipe is intended to taste like a strawberry milkshake. And it really does! If you want a less-sweet drink, or would rather not use dates, be sure to check out my Strawberry Banana Smoothie recipe instead.

Ingredients You’ll Need

To make the best strawberry smoothie, you’ll need just 4 simple ingredients.

  • Frozen strawberries
  • Milk (I use almond milk)
  • Medjool dates
  • Vanilla extract

This combination reminds me so much of strawberry ice cream! But, if you don’t have dates on hand, you can replace them with 1 to 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, for a similar sweetness level.

How to Make It

How do you make a strawberry smoothie from scratch? Start with the items that are the most difficult to blend, saving the frozen fruit for last.

dates and almond milk in blender

I like to blend the dates, almond milk, and vanilla first.

Once you don’t see any large pieces of dates left, you can add in the frozen strawberries and blend again.

Finally, you’ll add in the ice, for an extra-slushy, milkshake texture.

Depending on how large your ice cubes are, you may only need 2 or 3 to achieve a slushy texture.

Keep in mind that the more ice you add, the more diluted the flavor will be, so start with less. You can always add more as needed!

Serve the strawberry smoothie right away for the best flavor and texture. You can even make it fancy with a little coconut whipped cream on top!

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries (6 oz; 167 grams)

  1. This was so good. I added chia seeds and collegen powder to add more nutirients but the flavor was yummy. I buy strawberries fresh and then when they are starting to turn I throw them in a bag in the freezer, leaves and all. Thanks for this recipe.

  2. Ahhmazing! I’m so used to blending various berries together in my smoothies. Using just strawberries was so refreshing. I forgot how good strawberries are alone! The dates enhance the flavor adding just the right amount of sweetness!

  3. 2nd time making this recipe, super delicious! I was looking for a healthier alternative to Starbucks strawberry creme fraps for my 6 year old daughter. This is so much better. Really good as a treat with some So Delicious Coco whip on top too. Thanks for such a simple and delicious recipe.

  4. This was so easy and delicious! Made this for my 6 year old who wanted a Strawberry creme frap from Starbucks. The whole family agreed it tastes even better. Only change from your recipe was no ice since we didn’t have any. Topped with So Delicious Coco whip for a super treat. Yum!!!

  5. I had this for breakfast this morning. It was delicious – just like a strawberry milkshake, but better. It left me feeling good after, without the sugar crash from a traditional milkshake. I’m going to try this with mango next. Thanks for the great recipe!

  6. Just made this tonight- did not have dates so I used a packet of Trader Joe’s stevia. It made 2 cups- 104 calories. My husband & I are trying to lose weight so this satisfies the sweet craving. We split it so not bad for a 52 cal dessert!
