Tuesday Things

1. I love the concept of this new sports bra.

sports braIt’s made by Naked Sports Gear, with a unique mesh top that doesn’t block the sun while you’re outdoors–> so you avoid thick tan lines and can absorb more vitamin D while you’re working out! The folks over at AHAlife sent me one to sample, which was very timely considering I was out-growing my usual size, and I am loving it so far. Even with my growing chest, this sports bra has been offering great support and definitely lives up to the no-tan-line promise. Plus, I love the cute sweetheart neckline!

*Note: The folks over at AHAlife are currently offering 20% off a purchase to all new users, plus free shipping on all orders over $100 until August 31st.

2. It’s too hot to drink hot tea this month.

iced tea in a glass

We’ve officially been hit with a heat wave over here, so I’ve been drinking my red raspberry leaf tea over ice. It’s especially delicious when brewed with some peppermint tea, too! If you’re not familiar, red raspberry leaf tea is thought to help tone and prepare the uterus for a more effective labor and delivery, so this herbal concoction has become a regular drink during my days. Here’s hoping it helps when the time comes!

3. When making your own nut butter, make sure you use at least 3 cups of nuts in a large food processor.

making homemade almond butter in a food processor

I had to make a new batch of homemade almond butter this weekend, but only had about 2 cups worth of almonds to work with. I figured it would still work, but after 20 minutes, my almonds were NOT even remotely close to becoming almond butter! Instead, I overheated my food processor and had to let it cool down while I ran to the grocery store to replace my almond stash. So, what normally takes about 25 minutes became an all-day event!

On the positive side, I now know that even when I burn-out my food processor, it will eventually recover. In about 3 hours.

4. Speaking of kitchen appliances, thanks to your Facebook recommendations, I’m going to try working with a slow cooker.

vita clay slow cookerI was overwhelmed by the number of slow cooker options out there, but many of you recommended the VitaClay, which I hadn’t heard of before! I chose this model because it’s free of aluminum, lead, and non-stick coatings, so I don’t have to worry about toxic substances being in contact with my food while it cooks away all day. This model also has a special “yogurt” function, which should be especially fun to work with! I see lots of homemade coconut yogurt in my future.

I can’t vouch for this machine yet, since it’s still on its way to my house, but I’m hoping I’ll love it. In the meantime, I’d love to hear about some of your favorite slow cooker recipes or suggestions!

Reader Feedback: Have you tried anything new this week? Please share your favorite slow cooker ideas below!

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary sports bra from the folks at AHAlife, but as always, I am under no obligation to post a positive review.ย

Hi , I like the look of the sports bra! Is it see through? Is is supportive enough to wear while running? Thanks!

Only the top mesh part is see-through, so that your shoulders don’t get a tan line. I think it’s probably supportive enough for running, though I can’t speak from personal experience, since I stopped running during the last trimester of my pregnancy!

Cool sports bra – the heart shaped bodice is adorable. Thanks for the tip with making the almond butter!

Thank you for the tip about the almond butter!

I drank RRL with both of my pregnancies, and I have no way of knowing what difference it made, but my labors were 8 and 10 hours and both my son and daughter were born 10 min after I was ready to start pushing.

I could not live without my slow cooker! I love it that much. Which is a big change from a few years ago, when it sat unused save for twice for atleast 2 years (!!). Our all time favorite slow cooker recipe is A Year of Slow Cooking’s butter chicken: http://crockpot365.blogspot.ca/2008/12/crockpot-chicken-makhani-indian-butter.html
I never use the yogurt and even left out the butter last time I made it because I haven’t found a decent soy and dairy free replacement, and it always comes out amazing. Stephanie has a lot of great recipes.
Right now I’m also loving slow cooker applesauce. Fill your slow cooker 3/4 full with apples, cook on low overnight, blend in the morning and add cinnamon to taste if you want. So yummy!! You can keep going at that point and make apple butter by cooking on low uncovered for 30 min to 1 hour. You will never buy store bought applesauce again!

I bought Artisana Cacao Bliss for the first time in Marshall’s, of all places! I was interested in trying this out since I’ve heard so much about this. And wow they’re right!! It’s soo yummy!!! Omg I’m afraid to eat too much but omg soo good! Im definitely gonna savor every bite.

Megan I have very old food processor and blendtec I make my own almond butter all the time key is to put almonds before to dehydrator for about 2 hours to make them warm, then my FP has done it in 5 minutes totally smooth

Thank you for the almond butter tip. I killed my old food processor trying to make almond butter. Have never tried it again because I wasn’t risking my vitamix…..may just have to try it one more time.

Yeah for slow cooker recipes!!! Those will be your “go to” once the baby arrives. =)

That’s AWESOME! (the VitaClay) I’m checking it out now! I’m anxious to see if you like it!

-just wondering
whats your take on blue agave nectar? i heard some say its worse than corn syrup, but ive heard rave reviews too

Lori @ www.ffglobetroter.com

I tried Gingerade Kombucha by Synergy for the first time and loved it! I have had their other flavors and this will be added to my regular favorites :).

I would LOVE if you could make a post about pregnancy related things- like how raspberry tea leaf and dates are good to have! I didn’t know these things and doubt it would come up in the research I would do. You could list some helpful sites, or other general things you have learned are good (or bad!) to use during pregnancy. Thanks for all you do!!!

Very interesting about the sports bra…
I tried making almond butter last week, usually I give up after 10 minutes because my food processor almost cooks. This time I processed 20 minutes and a creamy almond butter came out. The downside was that the whole house smelled like burned plastic.
Guess my food processor isn’t made to make nut butter ๐Ÿ˜‰

where can I get more recipes…

That sports bra is lovely! Pity it doesn’t go past a C cup ๐Ÿ™
