What I Ate Wednesday

Morning

Un-pictured: Water & raw probiotics, plus a large iced green tea throughout the morning.

(For those of you who have asked, I switch up my brand of probiotics every time I finish a bottle, so that my body gets a variety of friendly bacteria. Lately, I alternate between Dr. Ohhira’s, Ascended Health and Garden of Life’s Raw Probiotics.)

Green(ish) smoothie! This one had 2 frozen bananas, a whole avocado, 3 handfuls fresh spinach, 2 T. raw cocoa powder, a splash of vanilla, a few generous shakes of cinnamon, 1 1/2 cups filtered water and a few handfuls of ice.

This makes a LOT of smoothie.

I had one glass for breakfast and saved the other half in the fridge for a post-workout snack later in the day.

Lunch

A whole avocado mashed with lime juice, salt, garlic and fresh dill–> a quick guacamole, of sorts. Served with half a bag of baby carrots and sliced cucumbers.

Yes, that’s my second whole avocado of the day.

Post-workout Snack

Another 20 oz. glass of green smoothie, leftover from this morning.

Dinner

Un-pictured: The other half-bag of baby carrots, leftover from lunch, while preparing dinner.

Four local eggs, scrambled in grass-fed butter, with fresh spinach and a container of fresh pico de gallo. I poured this whole skillet over a bag of mixed greens, and ate it as a salad!

Dessert

The rest of my Lily’s dark chocolate bar AND the rest of my “Thin Mint” dark chocolate bar.

While I do like the stevia-sweetened bar, it doesn’t quite satisfy me the way bars made with a bit of real sugar do… so I went ahead and had both. ;)

  • I am in love with your mega smoothies and the fact that you have chocolate every day! Your style of eating is so inspiring to me! I love that you eat a bag of baby carrots in a day too! I thought I was the only person who did that :)

  • Yummy eats! I have been doing a lot of green smoothies this week, yesterday that was bkfast and lunch followed by a nice big cup of slightly warmed soup and some homemade pudding (made w/ carrots)..I wanted to give my digestive system a rest bc I ate a lot on Sunday! I have been soaking the chia seeds prior to adding them into the VItamix with the rest of the ingredients and it makes it even thicker and creamier-I love it!!

When I go to L.A. I have to meet you and give you my special kefir grains they are so strong and alive that no probiotic is so strong. When it is ready I keep it in fridge without grains of course and it is so fizzy that it has exploded one time( even when I have left 1/4 space in jar) and we have to paint whole kitchen. So now I have to open very very slowly and wait. It heals everything. I make it from sheep milk and it is more like yogurt, cause it has more fat then cow or goat milk. I also make mint chocolate myself(cacao powder, stevia mint flavour, raw butter, coconut oil, pinch salt, vanilla powder)

I bought some of the ‘endangered species’ brand dark chocolate bars yesterday! (Raspberry, and espresso bean) Both are DELISH! (I would know, since I had to taste BOTH.) :) I’ve also been buying all varieties of Lara Bars, which are so simple and amazing. I’ve been religiously having my green juice every morning! My Mother In Law bought me a Jack LeLanne juicer so many years ago, and it sat in the cabinet entirely too long. After finding your website, I am angry with myself for waiting so long to enjoy the benefits of juicing. I want a VitaMix! I’m dying to try one of your vanilla-cado shakes!

Today’s breakfast was half of an Ezekiel English muffin topped with a tablespoon of flax oil, four egg whites, and a slice of tomato with half a grapefruit and black coffee. Lunch was beet hummus lettuce wraps with tomato, cucumber, red onion, and avocado with a side of cauliflower rice mixed with tahini, evoo, spinach, s/p, tumeric, and oregano. Looking ahead to an afternoon snack…almond butter and banana shake and a green drink before dinner. Then trying my hand at your detox veggie curry as mentioned yesterday. The “alfredo” rocked over zucchini “pasta” last night btw! My husband even loved it :) For dessert, a date/macadamia/blueberry bar from a batch I made yesterday and white tea! Yum! I do love to eat!

  • I’ve been hitting the green smoothie and green juice hard – I’ve been unintentionally detoxing myself! Even while eating banana chocolate chip muffins!

Hi Megan! That egg scramble looks seriously yummy. I always forget to pick up eggs at farmer’s market, so I end up getting them at WF, but definitely not as good!
This week has included a lot of wild poached salmon, which I topped with an avocado/pepitas/cilantro puree which was divine. Along with abundant farmer’s market veggies which we roasted: heirloom tomatoes, broccoli, zucchini. I’ve also been loving these Eden brown rice chips that I found at WF- so delicious. Breakfast has been either green juices or a small bowl of fruit. Love your posts!

  • everything looks great! interesting about switching up probiotics, I tend to stay to one brand, but when I run out I get another one to hold me till I get the one I usually get. Glad to know that is okay.

Which probiotics do you prefer? I am using New Chapter and I have Dr. Ohira’s to start when I finish what I am using.

It is getting cold in WI.
I need more “warm comfort food” ideas.
