“Pleasantly surprised by the flavor, much tastier than celery/cucumber detox smoothies I’ve tried in the past. The lime, ginger, and cilantro really balanced out.” -Toby

Detox Smoothie Ingredients
- Green Apple: One study shows that eating an apple a day may be almost as effective as taking a statin drug at reducing the risk for heart disease. The pectin that apples contain acts as a prebiotic and may promote the growth of good bacteria in your gut, too!
- Pineapple: Rich in antioxidants, this tropical fruit also contains bromelain, a protein-digesting enzyme. It helps break down protein into amino acids, and as a result, may enhance digestion.
- Banana: A great source of potassium, eating bananas may help lower the risk of chronic kidney disease, according to a 2019 study.
- Ginger: Ginger is considered to have anti-inflammatory effects in the body and may help to lower fasting blood sugar levels. It has also been shown to speed up digestion, causing the stomach to empty faster.
- Spinach: This leafy green has a neutral flavor when you add it to a smoothie, and this study has shown that it may help prevent oxidative damage in the body.
- Cilantro: This fresh herb contains a compound called dodecanal that has been shown to have antibacterial effects against Salmonella. Parsley can be used as a swap if you prefer!
- Lime: Limes are a great source of vitamin C, which has been shown to increase the production of white blood cells in test tube studies, so it may help to protect against infections and disease.

How to Make a Detox Smoothie
Step 1:
Slice the green apple into chunks, removing the core, seeds, and stem. Add that to a high-speed blender, along with water, spinach, frozen pineapple chunks, banana, ginger, cilantro, and lime juice.
Note: If you don’t have limes on hand, fresh lemon juice can be used as an alternative.

Want to save this for later?

Step 2:
Secure the lid on your blender and blend until smooth, about 60 seconds. There should be no visible chunks of fruit or greens.
Pour the shake into a glass immediately and serve. It has the best taste and texture right away.

Smoothie Storage Tips
If you have leftover smoothie, it can be stored in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Smoothies will separate when stored, so be sure to shake them well before serving again.
You can also freeze leftovers in a popsicle mold for a frozen, nutrient-dense treat later!

Ingredients
- ½ cup water (or orange juice)
- 1 green apple
- ½ cup frozen pineapple chunks
- ½ frozen banana
- ½ inch fresh ginger , peeled and minced
- 1 cup fresh spinach
- small handful fresh cilantro
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and serve right away.
- If you don't have have a high-speed blender, I recommend blending the spinach, cilantro, and ginger with the water first, to help break them down completely. Then add in the fruit and lime juice, and blend again.

This recipe is for a single serving.
What can you use if your allergic to apple, bananas and oranges?
You can swap out any fruit that you can tolerate, and adjust the ingredients to your liking.
I tried it and enjoyed it. I’m new to this smoothie thing so I’m exploring all options hoping to lose weight. My personal opinion is that it’s a 4 out of 5. Ginger is an acquired taste but it’s very refreshing.
I tried this using fresh banana, fresh pineapple, and adding some ice; it is delicious. Really well balanced, slightly spicy, and more sweet than green tasting. A lovely way to start the day. Thank you!
Can I add fresh bananas instead of frozen ones?
Yes, it will just change the texture slightly– not as ice-cream like. You may also want to use less water for blending in that case, since the bananas will break down faster.
I didn’t have frozen ones so i just used a banana but i will be putting one in my freezer tonight. Over all it was good
This smoothie was delicious
Actually nicer than I was expecting. Quite refreshing and summery. And it’s full of goodness so what’s not to love!
I am concerned about such a high carbohydrate count.
